Key Stage 3 Assessment Rationale

At Yate Academy, assessment takes the form of both regular formative assessment in lessons alongside 2 formal summative assessment points throughout each year at Key Stage 3.

The aims of our Assessments cover five main areas:

Progress - Accurately track the progress of students and identify those who are falling behind.

Teaching - Inform classroom teachers about areas of strength and weakness of their class and enable them to plan effectively to close these gaps.

Curriculum - Provide useful data to teaching teams to inform their future curriculum planning and improvements. This data allows them to assess the impact of any previous curriculum evaluation and improvement.

Preparation - Prepare students for future external assessments by building and embedding high quality revision strategies and study habits.

Communication - Inform families in a meaningful way about their child’s progress and attainment, advising them of the best ways to support their child.
